Spring into Summer at KWM..

May 24th, 2011 by admin

Like most folks, I’m an unabashed spring-lover.  From the first days of snow-melt to bud-break, golf and dandelions, I love the sense of freshness and renewal that spring is all about.  At Kenaston Wine Market, spring also brings some of the best wine-buying opportunities of the year.  New and fresh-vintage products are rolling in so it’s also time to renew and refresh our warehouse stock. Our managers - clipboards in hand – have been busy tallying up the bin-ends, past vintages, overstocks (overenthusiastic Christmas ordering?) and discontinued brands.  This year, there are almost a hundred wines on deep-discount sale, and great opportunities for case-purchase savings on some of our most popular high-value products.

“Cottage Cases” are being assembled and the shelves are being stocked with lighter spring and summer whites, rosés and chill-able reds.  All in all, it’s the perfect time for a visit to Kenaston Wine Market to sample some wines and stock up on your “spring into summer” wine selections.  Let one of our friendly and knowledgeable Wine Advisors guide you through the offerings and help you choose the wines that are just right for you!

Happy Spring (and Summer!)

Don’t be a turkey…

October 5th, 2010 by admin

…and miss out on our favourite Thanksgiving wines for your family get-together!

The traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner is a great opportunity for creative wine pairing.  The meat itself is fairly neutral in flavour; it’s the “trimmin’s” that really carry the day, ie, savoury stuffing, sweet-tart cranberries, sweet potatoes, rich gravies and the like – even before you hit dessert.  Aromatic whites such as Rieslings, Gewurztraminers and unctuous blends – such as perennial fave, Conundrum – always hit the spot.  Lighter, fruity and/or spicy reds such as Pinot Noir, Cotes du Rhone and even Tempranillo can be a delicious accompaniment, especially when served slightly chilled.  KWM’s Proprietor, Jim Jaworski, tells us that he can never decide what to drink with Thanksgiving dinner, so he lines up 3 or 4 glasses in front of him and sips a bit of each!  Jim says that one of his wines this year will be a new Spanish Tempranillo-Merlot blend called ‘Virol’.  He tells us that it’s a really interesting, spicy, medium-bodied red wine with a distinctive aftertaste of nutmeg and clove.  Kind of like punkin’ pie in a glass!  The following are a selection of Thanksgiving favourites, chosen by your friendly Wine Advisors at Kenaston Wine Market.
